Orange Madeira Cake – #GBBOBloggers2015

I am so excited that Great British Bake Off is back as that means that Great Blogger Bake Off is back too and I get to do loads of baking and making a mess for Mummy to clear up! After I won last years final show stopper challenge there was no way I wasn’t going to defend my crown and this year it’s even easier as Father Christmas brought me and Mummy a great big mixer!

We watched the programme on Wednesday and decided that it had to be a Madeira Cake – I didn’t like the look of Black Forest cake and Mummy can’t eat nuts so we couldn’t do the walnut cake either. Instead of a plain or lemon Maderia I thought we would use a big juicy orange in ours. Here’s how we did it!

Orange Madeira Cake

Weigh out 175g butter and 175g caster sugar and beat these together until creamy
Add in 3 eggs, 1 at a time and then add 250g of self raising flour – give it all a good mix

Add the zest and juice of 1 big orange (you will need to squeeze really hard!), stir in and then add to a loaf tin. Get a grown up to put it in the oven at 170 degrees for about 50 minutes or until a knife comes out clean – our oven takes ages, yours might be quicker!

Let it cool on a rack and then you can decorate if you like or just slice it up and share with your friends! I took my cake to my golf lesson to share with the juniors & forgot to save Mummy any – ooops!

  3. I was actually waiting for Jacob’s bakes when I heard that the GBBO was on again. He did so well last year and it’s amazing seeing him get involved again – with such a fab bake already!
